Our home is our most prized and cherished possession. We spend enough money on the interiors, on the furnishings, to redecorate and renovate it time to time because our home is the most comfortable and endearing place for us. Following some simple Vastu tips will ensure a good and positive environment in our house. Vastu shastra is an ancient science of architecture and construction. These are texts found on the Indian subcontinent that can help you live a happy and healthy life if your house is compliant to certain natural laws.
Here are a few, easy to follow Vastu tips to ensure a healthy and happy home:
Attract positive energies: Vastu Shastra is about creating a positive environment in the house and for this, we have to ensure that our house attracts and emits positive vibrations. Preferably, one should choose homes that have east, north or north-east facing entrance.
Small, simple things like washing one’s hands and feet after coming home, lighting up the house when its dark can help bring in positive energies. Lighting a lamp & incense sticks and doing a small prayer every morning and evening helps in maintaining the positive vibes of the house. You may also play devotional music/chants during the morning or evening time.
Maintaining cleanliness at home is yet another simple way to usher in positivity. Get rid of the unwanted clutter in your house as much as you can. Dispose or donate things that you haven’t used for a year and probably will never use them again. Ensure that your home is well dusted and organized. Spend a few minutes every morning in tidying up the rooms. Clutter adds to confusion and stress which may result in arguments in the family. A clean house soothes the mind, is pleasing to eyes and reflects positive energy.
Avoid unattractive things and sounds
It is recommended that thorny plants like cactus and other shrubs should not be kept inside the house as they attract negative energies. Also avoid keeping pictures of war scenes, wild animals, unhappy or crying people etc. in your house as this attracts sad vibes.
Decorate your house with real flowers instead of artificial flowers/plants as real flowers are more pleasing to eyes as well as they make the house more lively and positive. The doorbells should be melodious and pleasing to ears as harsh or shrill doorbells spoil the harmony of the house.
Do not keep stopped watches or clocks in the house or those which show slow time as they affect the flow of finances. Also unused or irreparable electrical appliances or musical instruments should not be kept in home.
Let your bedroom enhance your relationship
Soothing colors should be used in the bedroom walls as well as for the furnishings. Keeping happy pictures of the couple in the bedroom helps in strengthening your relationship.
Use wooden beds and avoid metal beds in the bedroom. Also box beds or bed with storage space should be avoided as it obstructs the flow of positive energy.
Ensure that your bed doesn’t face a mirror or anything made of glass as this affects the harmony in your relationship. Keeping a television in the bedroom is not recommended and if television has to be kept then it should not be placed opposite the bed, instead place it either on the left or the right side of the bed.
- Place a nameplate outside the home which indicates ownership of the house and it helps trace positivity and good opportunities. Draw holy symbols of Swastik and OM on either side of the nameplate.
- Using wind chimes is recommended as they help to break negative energy patterns and bring in positivity.
- While cleaning the floor with any disinfectant, a little sea salt should be added which helps in absorbing the negativity from the house.
- Medicines should not be kept in kitchen as it affects the health of the family.
- Cob webs should be cleaned regularly as cob webs lead to a bad effect on one’s fortunes.
- Avoid eating food on bed as this leads to arguements and nightmares.
- Performing the Navagraha puja and Ganesh puja at least once in three years helps in maintaining peace and happiness.
